Post-Doctoral Fellowship Positions in InternationalVaccinology



General deion:

This position will provide in-depth experience in international health research with emphasis in the development, study protocol design and writing, implementation, analysis and reporting of epidemiologic field studies in infectious diseases and vaccine trials. General responsibilities will include development of study protocols with senior IVI research scientists, supervision of epidemiologic surveillance studies at the community- and hospital-level in collaboration with local public health staff and doctors, interaction with local and international laboratory scientists in bacteriology and virology, development of local training programs for epidemiologic surveillance andassistance in implementation and monitoring vaccine trials in developing countries of Asia (e.g., Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and VietNam).



Specific responsibilities:

1.
Design and write English-language study documents to support field implementation of epidemiologic surveillance and vaccine field trials.

2.
Develop and implement training programs in cooperation with international scientists for local laboratory staffand local epidemiologists in developing countries.

3.
Interact with international laboratory consultants and clinical pediatric infectious disease specialists to provide field site training for prospective disease burden surveillance studies and vaccine trials.

4.
Assist mid-level and senior IVI research in developing study designs, study protocol writing,ethical clearances, implementation of training programs and completion of vaccine trials to evaluate new and existing vaccines to prevent meningitis, pneumonia and rotavirus diarrhea in developing countries.

5.
Perform(block) international studysite visits for ongoing infectious disease epidemiologic surveillance and vaccine studies related to invasive bacterialdiseases (e.g., Haemophilus influenzae type b, pneumococcus) and rotavirus diarrhea as well as other priority diseasesunder study by IVI staff (this responsibility will vary depending on project).

6.
Become proficient in the usage of epidemiologic analysis software and perform(block) epidemiologic data analysis for prospective surveillance studies in developingcountries of Asia.

7.
Become proficient in methods for analysis of vaccine trial data and perform(block) analysis in collaboration with local scientists and biostatistical consultants.

8.
Become proficient in writing English-language manusto describe project results and submit manus for publication in peer-reviewed English language journals.



Required skills and training: This position will be filled by individuals that have completed their clinical medicine training in general medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics or family medicine (with graduate M.D. degree) or have completed their doctoral program studies in epidemiology (with Ph.D. degree). Individuals with other clinical training (e.g., nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine) or doctoral degree in a laboratory discipline will be considered based on their previous experience. This position requires the ability to read, write and speak English. This position requires the abilityto operate computer programs including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel. No previous international experience is required for this position but willingness and ability to travel at least 50% of time is required some projects. This position canbe tailored to suit the interests for work on projects based largely at the IVI headquarters in Korea or for work on projects based in developing countries of Asia.



Duration: This position is designed for individuals who desire a careerin international health and vaccine research. This post will have two-year contract duration.



Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with previous training, work experience and skills.
