The Biochemistry Department was opened with the first biochemistry class by Professor Sim Bong-seop in April 1956 for the basic medical research and education when the first student, who had entered the Songsin medical school in May 1954, started their first year in regular course of medical school. The departmental staff is composed of a principal investigating professor, research assistants, staff scientists, and graduate students under the leadership of a principal investigating professor for each research project. Continuing support from the university and the devoted efforts of the faculty and its students have assisted the growth of the department.
